U.S. stocks slammed; Dow industrials shed 504 points

By Kate Gibson

Last update: 4:13 p.m. EDT Sept. 15, 2008

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks tanked on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit with its worst point and percentage drop in nearly seven years after Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. filed for bankruptcy and insurance giant American International Group Inc. scurried to raise capital even as its market value was axed by distraught investors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average [: $indu] plunged 504.48 points, or 4.4%, to 10,917.51. The S&P 500 ($SPX:

We trained hard–but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form into teams, we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing. And what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization.–Gaius Petronius Arbiter

The above quote pretty much sums up how I felt about implementation of the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act. If you haven’t read this article yet from a past teacher on the Confluence, be sure and do so:

No Child Left Undamaged

Posted on September 13, 2008 by garychapelhill

[I spent several years working as a high school teacher.  I had always wanted to be a teacher and enjoyed it very much.  I was going to make it my lifelong career.  NCLB ended all that.  After George W Bush was appointed president by the SCOTUS in 2001, he was under some pressure to extend an olive branch to the Democrats.  Instead, with the help of Ted Kennedy, he offered them a Trojan horse called The No Child Left Behind Act:]

Texas Voter Registration Currently Ends Oct. 6th

When one of my daughters lived in Leander, Texas, for several years, she and her husband often had some trouble voting. Even though they registered and lived in the same place, they found that their names were not on the voter list. This happened several times. After the first experience, and the day of the second, she called the registrars office to confirm that they were indeed on the list. However, when they showed up to vote, they had to argue with the poll that they were still registered.

I add this small bit of family experience to the ether. I ask you to consider Lynnette Long’s growing compendium of election fraud in Texas, in line with the following: I just went on line to the Montgomery Co. website in Texas and it appears their server is down. This is probably due to the power outage. However, I think we must anticipate the possibility that the general election vote will be affected by Ike.

It appears that voter registration for the General Election currently ends in Texas on October 6th!!  This will not be a lot of time to begin to recover from all the damage Ike is currently inflicting. Re-registering, or assuring you are still registered, may not be at the top of your priority list right now.  However, I urge you as soon as you are able, to call your registrars office or go online and ascertain your status, and print a pdf copy if you need to. The State of Texas should make accommodation for this event.

We PUMAs were all glad when Olberman and Matthews were demoted but what are we doing about this guy?

Mark Belling called Gloria Steinem a “grizzled old bag,” “old witch”

[Summary: Radio host Mark Belling called Gloria Steinem a “grizzled old bag,” “old witch,” and “embittered old has-been” and also stated that the “previous generation” of feminists “were so ugly you couldn’t stand to look at them.”]

Remember the melamine in the pet food? It’s not panic time. It’s an advisory for asian markets. However, if you know someone with babies who shops asian, let them know!

In response to reports of contaminated milk-based infant formula manufactured in China, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today is issuing a Health Information Advisory. This is to assure the American public that there is no known threat of contamination in infant formula manufactured by companies that have met the requirements to sell infant formula in the United States. Although no Chinese manufacturers of infant formula have fulfilled the requirements to sell infant formula in the United States, FDA officials are investigating whether or not infant formula manufactured in China is being sold in specialty markets which serve the Asian community. Last month I posted a blog on the Texas Two Step DNC review with meeting dates. As it turns out one of the meetings was scheduled for tomorrow in Houston. This meeting has been canceled until further notice due to Ike.

However, for those of us who want to end the caucus mess, I’m asking you Texans to make sure all those documents, concerns, and you, are battened down. Good luck. We will be thinking of you this week.

You may remember that Barack Obama had opted out of the public finance system in July-August. Pundits speculated at the time he would need around 55 million a month to complete the race. Then he made some nicey nice about asking donors to 527’s to contribute to his campaign instead. Hah! Lately MoveOn has spent it’s time OPPOSING McCain, rather than supporting Obama. The SEIU just reported on Sept 10th, they spent around $255,000, in Missouri and Kansas canvassing for Obama. They reported another $365,000 canvassing in Iowa. (Local 199.) (more…)

I was settling down a little, then I found annebellep’s article. Read the first three articles. Then read hers. Can’t forget the the whack attacks about pigs and fish? Palin IS NOT the latest bimbo.  However, someone IS hoping you will go there. Palin appeals to us western types in a grown up, real person way. She also has the skills to do the job and that is scaring the bejeezus out of all the minions of the Boys Only Club.

Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, Wyoming, parts of California, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, maybe even Kansas, and Iowa.

Take a look at some of the serious ruminations going on below, and think about the states I just listed:
