Last week amendment S4980-4984, a bill submitted to prevent mortgage foreclosures and enhance mortgage credit availability, was defeated by this cast of characters. Senator Barbara Boxer had this to say:

Currently, bankruptcy judges are able to modify terms on loans for vacation homes, automobiles and other assets. The measure, sponsored by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), failed by a vote of 45 to 51…]

Do we have a disconnect?
At the end of March, SOS Hillary Rodham Clinton and UN Ambassador Susan Rice announced to the United Nations that the US would seek a seat on the UN’s Human Right’s Council. Candidates to the Council will be chosen May 12th. As part of the process, candidates are required to produce a pledge. That pledge has now been published and is available to the public by following the links HERE.
The ACLU has evaluated the pledge HERE, and has determined that several points have been left obscure. Key among these is a lack of discussion on: fair trial standards, torture and detention, and government official accountability.
While the above points of contention, and another HERE, are much on our mind, it remains to be seen how they will affect our bid to UN’s Human Rights Council. In any event, it’s clear that the Obama administration has set upon a position. If we want to fix our recent past, it does not appear that it will be through the pronouncements of the executive or legislative branch of government.

I still think the primary debates that were televised on “pay-for” TV were lost to a large portion of the public.

Few sign up to farm abandoned land

[The Michigan Land Bank is offering to lease around 8,000 tax-reverted parcels to people who want to start gardens, but so far few have taken advantage of the program. According to Carrie Lewand-Monroe, executive director of the Michigan Land Bank, only around eight parcels have been leased through the Garden for Growth program. The program is intended to enhance access to affordable fresh foods. Parcels can be leased for 50 dollars per year. About 7,000 of the 8,000 available parcels are located in Wayne Co., Lewand-Monroe said.

Approximately six months ago my husband made a new health commitment and started exercising. Recently he has had trouble figuring out what to wear. He asked my help as sounding board, and we went through all his clothes to see what still fit. As it turned out, very little did.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, which is this month, in case you didn’t know, The National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, NY has named it’s 2009 inductees for the Hall.
I went to Wikipedia and linked, where I could, their names to any information about these women. I must tell you however, as has been noted before for other women, who are not actresses or singers, there is a paucity of information. Clearly someone needs to dedicate time to Wiki in this area.
To be inducted in to the Hall is a great honor in recognition of an extraordinary life. This year’s inductees are:
Susan Kelly-Dreiss
Dr. Allie B. Latimer
Rebecca Talbot Perkins
Katherine Stoneman
On October10-11, these women will be officially inducted, along with three historical figures, during the Seneca Falls celebration that marks first women’s rights convention in 1848 and the 72 year struggle for women’s suffrage.
Perhaps between now and October, some of us can memorialize the celebration and acknowledgment these women deserve.
