My mother was an early follower of Adele Davis. She later became a nurse, after a first career as a stay-at-home-mom, and is always on the lookout for news in the field. She knows the history of the FDA and events in the 50’s and 60’s. She sent me this recent article on melamine from the NYT: (more…)

Supreme Court takes up gay marriage issue
Bee Capitol Bureau
Published: Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008
The California Supreme Court agreed Wednesday to consider complaints by opponents of Proposition 8 that it improperly revised the constitution to ban gay marriage. The court declined to stay its enforcement in the meantime.
Court spokeswoman Lynn Holton said the court asked the parties involved to write briefs arguing three issues:
(1) Is Proposition 8 invalid because it constitutes a revision of, rather than an amendment to, the California Constitution?
(2) Does Proposition 8 violate the separation-of-powers doctrine under the California Constitution?
(3) If Proposition 8 is not unconstitutional, what is its effect, if any, on the marriages of same-sex couples performed before the adoption of Proposition 8?
Holton said the court established an expedited briefing schedule. She said oral argument could be held as early as March 2009.

If there is one thing crazy ads that the supporters of Prop 8 did, it’s remind us what a stranglehold they’ve worked to maintain in the last 30 years over education. Here in California we were treated to a never-ending tra, la, la, la, where, if you believed it, unspeakable things would happen to public education and your children; future training to turn all your little ones into OMG, that which remains in moderation, qu**rs!! Change the Caucus Org affirms that the DNC has the power to end Texas caucuses without going through court action. It appears that this could be decided by merely changing the number of open delegates in a presidential year. To my mind this seems like a potential last gasp option for Texans, but it would not resolve the remaining issues for the rest of the caucus states. Read their report and see what you think: (more…)
