China may compensate milk victims

BEIJING: China is considering compensation for victims sickened or killed by toxic infant milk formula, a government spokesman said, following months of contention over stricken families with unmet demands for redress.
But a lawyer pressing for open redress denounced the plan.
Chinese authorities recently said six children died and 290,000 children suffered “urinary system abnormalities,” apparently after consuming Sanlu-brand milk powder and a “handful of other milk powder brands with problems.”

Australian Company Recalls Chicken Strips After Dogs Fall Ill
Symptoms may be similar to those from Nutro Pet Foods

An Australia company has recalled some of its Chinese-made chicken strips because the treats may cause illnesses in small dogs. And those illnesses sound similar to the ones dogs and cats have experienced after eating Nutro food, according to a regular ConsumerAffairs.com reader.
The KraMar Pet Company of Australia announced the recall today, saying it has received 15 reported cases of illnesses since it launched its Supa Naturals chicken breast strips 15 months ago.
The company acknowledged a possible linked between the treats and instances of Fanconi-Like Syndrome in small dogs.
Symptoms of that illness include:…

WHO
Last year in the wake of the melamine pet food scandal I gave some thought to the bowls I was using for my pets. As a collector of old 40’s Melmac dishes, guess what, my pets were daily drinking from and licking their melamine food bowls! A lot of us have them, tucked away in our RV’s, old hard coffee cups that don’t break, or worse yet, a brand new set of dishes we use at the table, or the top of your traveling cup!
Truth is, you can still run right over to Target, Walmart, or almost any dish supplier and buy them. I replaced the pet bowls, and I only use the old melamine now once or twice a year. I don’t know how much I, or my pets ingested, or what the real safety issue, if any is. However, the announcement of WHO makes me think I did the right thing.

…Melamine is used in some food packaging and can rub off into packaged food products. It also is part of a cleaning solution used on some food processing equipment.]
