Heidi Li has a perspective on the recent blogger reported “Missouri Events”, wherein Obama “Truth Squads” are enlisted to come down on the persons who commit errors and misleading advertisements, with the weight of the law, and the Missouri Governor’s outraged response. Be sure and read her ‘here and here” links for background: (more…)

Remember Rwanda?
That small African country from whence recent one of our last genocide movies sprung? The object of Clintonian apologies, and current service? At a population of now, around 70% women, and a country with many struggles still ahead, Rwanda has achieved this:

PUMAS YES! JEROME CORSI NO!
“Just the place for a Snark” the Bellman Cried,
as he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.
The Hunting of the Snark- Lewis Carroll
Recently on BlogTalk Radio My-Two-Cents, the subject of Jerome Corsi came up again. So here is my view: Jerome Corsi is a right winged rabid bat bigoted sexist hatemonger that should be netted and succumb to his disease before he infects anyone else.
The longer you let a rabid bat feed, the more he infects. THEREFORE, DO NOT BUY HIS BOOK! DO NOT SUPPORT THE INFECTION OF FUTURE GENERATIONS! I’m not saying don’t read it. It’s always good to know the enemy. Just go to the library, or borrow it from one of those who succumbed and didn’t know his history. I know that I am probably giving the Free Republic a jolly just because they think this kind of thing is good advertisement. Here goes anyway. (more…)

Democrats- John McCain gets something and you still don’t!
Not hooked up, in line, beaming in, or otherwise whiz banged? The McCain Campaign has been sending a message. Just like Clinton did, McCain has been putting out campaign ads for the last two weeks to the folks with regular TV.
You know who those folks are, the 30-40% of the population, who get up early in the morning to watch the news, the folks who can’t afford the extras, or just don’t like to pay for what’s offered, the folks who are worried about the economy and VOTE?
They’ve been running these ads in my neighborhood. We are near Travis Air Force Base, in California. Except for Clinton’s and the local runs, we NEVER get campaign ads.
We aren’t even a contested state, are we?

U.S. stocks slammed; Dow industrials shed 504 points
By Kate Gibson
Last update: 4:13 p.m. EDT Sept. 15, 2008
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks tanked on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit with its worst point and percentage drop in nearly seven years after Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. filed for bankruptcy and insurance giant American International Group Inc. scurried to raise capital even as its market value was axed by distraught investors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average [: $indu] plunged 504.48 points, or 4.4%, to 10,917.51. The S&P 500 ($SPX:

We trained hard–but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form into teams, we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing. And what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization.–Gaius Petronius Arbiter
The above quote pretty much sums up how I felt about implementation of the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act. If you haven’t read this article yet from a past teacher on the Confluence, be sure and do so:
No Child Left Undamaged
Posted on September 13, 2008 by garychapelhill
[I spent several years working as a high school teacher. I had always wanted to be a teacher and enjoyed it very much. I was going to make it my lifelong career. NCLB ended all that. After George W Bush was appointed president by the SCOTUS in 2001, he was under some pressure to extend an olive branch to the Democrats. Instead, with the help of Ted Kennedy, he offered them a Trojan horse called The No Child Left Behind Act:]

Mark Belling called Gloria Steinem a “grizzled old bag,” “old witch”
[Summary: Radio host Mark Belling called Gloria Steinem a “grizzled old bag,” “old witch,” and “embittered old has-been” and also stated that the “previous generation” of feminists “were so ugly you couldn’t stand to look at them.”]

You may remember that Barack Obama had opted out of the public finance system in July-August. Pundits speculated at the time he would need around 55 million a month to complete the race. Then he made some nicey nice about asking donors to 527’s to contribute to his campaign instead. Hah! Lately MoveOn has spent it’s time OPPOSING McCain, rather than supporting Obama. The SEIU just reported on Sept 10th, they spent around $255,000, in Missouri and Kansas canvassing for Obama. They reported another $365,000 canvassing in Iowa. (Local 199.) (more…)

I was settling down a little, then I found annebellep’s article. Read the first three articles. Then read hers. Can’t forget the the whack attacks about pigs and fish? Palin IS NOT the latest bimbo. However, someone IS hoping you will go there. Palin appeals to us western types in a grown up, real person way. She also has the skills to do the job and that is scaring the bejeezus out of all the minions of the Boys Only Club.

Selected Speeches from 2008, and Obama’s 2004 Convention Speech
I always like to read the texts of speeches. For one thing, they load well on dial-up. For another, new meanings and better understandings arise. I like to compare them. Just for fun, when you read these, search the texts to see how often they use buzz words. Try union, labor, worker, education, teacher, family, etc. See if the presidential nominee actually addressed your interest, or let someone else say the words. So, for your use, here are several of the DNC convention speeches: (more…)
