For that midnight political hamburger.
Yankee Doodle Musical Chairs
Tom Kaine to head the “New and Improved” DNC.
Politico reports that yet another Harvard Grad, Gov. Tim Kaine will be the next DNC chair. This is a move that slides right into place with the centrist postings Obama is accumulating.
Terry McAuliffe to try for Kaine’s seat
If you haven’t read Heid Li yet regarding Terry McAuliffe decision to run
for Virgina’s Governor to succeed Kaine, go HERE.
Howard Dean, who declined to continue as DNC chair in November, is being feted by the Burlington Free Press, as “The Vermonter of the Year”.
Ironically, in the process, they quote Chris Matthews as saying what I thought months ago.
“Chris Matthews of Hardball had Dean as a guest and paid this former Vermont governor the highest of compliments. He credited Dean for setting up the prelude to Obama’s victory … . He said very clearly to Howard Dean, who helped pave the way to Democrat success, ‘You were the one.’”
The fifty state strategy was Dean’s, Rahm Emanuel didn’t like it and wanted to concentrate on a more traditional model. However, Dean’s plan won out.
So Dr. Dean, Congrats. I hope you are happy with what you have wrought.
So then, what will become of Dean? RCP has some THOUGHTS.
And, lets not forget the Commerce Shuffle–
With Richardson out, who will Obama pick to be new Sec?
As we type, Christine Gregoire has disappeared to a mysterious meeting.
ReuterS is placing their bets on this LIST. While the New Agenda is looking for a few good WOMEN.
Speaking of women.
Two men and two teenagers accused of gang rape and related charges have been arrested. The case is being pursued as a hate crime because of the woman’s sexual orientation. This would be good news, if brought to court, however, it would be in service of her sexual preference, not her gender.

Attorney General Jerry Brown
[(01-05) 18:27 PST SAN FRANCISCO — State Attorney General Jerry Brown was “profoundly wrong” and “invented an entirely new theory” when he urged the California Supreme Court to invalidate Proposition 8’s same-sex marriage ban because voters can’t be allowed to overturn fundamental liberties, attorneys for the measure said Monday.
…By Jan. 21, attorneys both for and against Prop. 8 will file their final briefs, which the court will consider before a hearing on the case, which could come as soon as March.}

A new enviro hero shines spotlight on oil and gas mess
ESSAY – January 05, 2009
By Paul Larmer
[The Bush administration’s most enduring mark on the American West may well be the tens of millions of acres of public lands it has handed over to the oil and gas industry — and the belated backlash the giveaway has spawned.
As if to punctuate this legacy, the Bureau of Land Management — which oversees mineral rights on public lands — held its most contentious gas lease sale Dec. 19, making available some 150,000 acres of Utah’s magnificent redrock canyon country near Arches and Canyonlands national parks….]
