i don’t think Rep. Berman or any other member of Congress have any rite dictating to Germany just because they disagree with what and how they legislate . i think Rep. Berman and other member of Congress should try and solve the problems that we have right here in the America .

It’s interesting isn’t it Boogie… Religious circumcision is for both Muslims and Jews. Merkel is going to allow it anyway, despite the Cologne court ruling.
I thought we got past the health benefits of circumcision, but I guess we are still discussing it because of HIV.

So I guess if a religious act continues to have a health benefit, I can see how it would play out in, say, Africa, where we are still sending HIV aid.

rooff my problem with it it is none of our business what Germany wants to do either way is Germany and the the US Congress’s have no have no business dictating to the German people what they should or should not do . its their country . i don’t think these Congress men and women would be so receptive it it where the other way around . i think most Americans and these Congress men and women would be outrage if another country try-ed to impose it believes on the us .

I’m not sure how Germany legislative and Judaical system works but i think that she will face a political backlash in Germany for this move.

I don’t disagree with you Boogie. It’s an unnecessary procedure and not always done well or in a safe medical environment. If as an adult you want to have it done, then fine. However, 2.2 billion worldwide muslims and around 13.5 million worldwide jews may consider it a religious necessity. Legal restrictions apparently currently cause the acts to go underground like abortions. So, laws which do more to assure safety appear to be the first line of defense.
I am curious about the reported 35-60% reduction in HIV with circumcision and a beneficial reduction in cervical cancer, though not other STDs. Not everyone is going to wear condoms, so why aren’t more efforts being made for local antiviral or virucidal products that could be used?
