Adoption group issues melamine notice for parents of Chinese kids

OTTAWA – An Ottawa-based international adoption firm has sent a notice to parents who adopted children from China to address concerns they might have about their babies’ potential contact with melamine-tainted formula.
Sandra Forbes, executive director of the Children’s Bridge, said a notice was sent out to all parents who use the adoption consulting agency, but had a specific focus on two groups planning to visit China in November for the next phase of the adoption process.
“We knew (the families) would be concerned about the children they had been matched because those children are still in China,” Forbes said. “That was the first group we thought about. We had our Chinese facilitator contact the two orphanages the children are coming from . . . and we found out those two orphanages were not using formula that was on the list (of products) that could be tainted.”
