Yesterday a friend sent me an e-mail in reference to the Emergency Stabilization Act (Bail-Out Act). My friend is a good man, and he maintains an open interest and mind in current events. When he sent me this email I saw it as open inquiry to the sad state of affairs in which we find ourselves regarding the current economic crisis. We are all looking for answers and understanding. The Face of a Bail Out

Lost in the shuffle over the bail out bill passage was the fact that it actually had another name. The bill was attached to the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health and Parity Act. The passage of this act is important, as noted on the Wellstone Website:

 […The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 is a major step forward to end discrimination in insurance coverage for people with mental illness and substance abuse disorders….]

-UPDATE- THE BAIL OUT BILL HAS PASSED THE HOUSE BY A VOTE OF  263 to 171.

I’ll get the tally as soon as the House puts it on line.

-UPDATE-

HERE IS THE VOTE TALLY. The bill is labeled the “Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007”, because as is often the case, it was added to another bill already up for floor vote.  It will now go back to the House, for a re-vote, in it’s modified form.

 

I can’t get the tally yet, but reports are that the Bailout bill just passed 74 in favor.
