Something is afoot!
All you acountants, help out here! Verify for your self what you think this means!
Last night, after reading the anecdotal information in Matthew Weaver’s blog on No Quarter, I decided to write one of my own. I think only time will tell whether the unverified information of which Mathew writes, represents any wide spread nefariousness.
In any event, there I was checking out the FEC web site for monthly figures, when the 2:00 am sleepies finally took over. This morning I went back. Low and behold the candidates’ figures have been changed to reflect a period through Oct 15th!
to see how the Financial Report Summary, looked last night, as of the September 30th monthly period:
See a jpeg of this period here:
Obama reported $547,158,009 in individual contributions.
To see how many times individual contributions
were made through Sept 30th: go to this jpeg:
Obama reported 374,726 individual contributions were made. If you do not know what this means, click my old link HERE for a discussion.
These amounts indicated a median $1,460.15 was spent per individual contribution.
So imagine my surprise this morning when I checked the Financial Report Summary! The new amount was $476,714,808 in individual contributions!
The number of individual contributions currently remains the same at 374,726.
I note that change in individual contributions, often lags a day or two. However, using current figures, this would mean a median individual contribution of $1,272.20.
As always, be aware that the Obama campaign has conflated numbers of donors with donations as part of their campaign propaganda. The true combined number of donors, who have contributed an aggregated sum of donations reaching the reporting threshold of $200, and those who have not, is still well below the 400,000 mark.
However, the big question is the restatement in individual contributions. There appears to be $70,443,201 LESS in individual contributions reported for Oct 15th. 70 Million seems a rather large sum to suddenly not have available.
Hmmm!!!
As others have noted, I too have been receiving a flutter of contribution requests from the Obama Campaign. Comparing his summary with McCain’s, it’s pretty clear, they went into this month with nearly the same amount of cash on hand!

I am not sure what you are questioning? (I am no expert but I did take a couple of years in accounting…)
Terra: You are ahead of me then, because my expertise is in waterproofing. However, the Chicago Trib might provide clarity. A couple of statements we just heard are;
[…Obama has now raised more than $600 million since the start of his presidential bid, a stunning amount in historical terms and in its relationship to his Republican opponent. McCain’s decision to take public financing in the general election limits his spending to $84 million for the fall, while Obama is expected to spend in excess of $300 million on the general election….]
[…Obama campaign manager David Plouffe did not detail the contributions, beyond saying that the campaign had added 632,000 new donors to its rolls and that the average donation for the month was less than $100…]

Obama has misstated donors from the beginning as a tactic. This month’s question is: Where did the 70 million go! It doesn’t appear that he refunded it. A restatement seems likely, but very it’s a very large amount to mistabulate.
or have to adjust.

Awww… Well I have donated a couple of times 🙂 I expect it to cost more for a virtual unknown (before the election), that is black, and democrat to have to pay more in order to get his message out… 🙂

[…] Even so, they make a good point. Based on the published FEC records, they estimate that less then one half of one percent of all adult Americans contributed this year. To see the Records for Obama and McCain through Oct 15h, check back HERE. […]
