Labor Day

Some of us are barbequing; others are having a little less fun:

The National Oceanic of Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA) runs the National Weather Service and they are keeping track of Gustaf, Hanna and ol’ Number Nine: HERE.

Riverdaughter has the Red Cross number to call:

Animal rescue has authority to enter New Orleans with the other workers. This time animals are being evacuated with their people. Donate or volunteer if you can and adopt or foster an animal. Even if it’s not a hurricane survivor, your act makes room in the agencies for those that will come. Go to ARNO, and the SPCA. (more…)

UPDATE

Well, its now 2:00 PM PDT, and so far it looks like McCain is the only one of the big three, that got his monthly report in early enough for the FEC to tabulate this morning. The new sums for Clinton and Obama are reflected in the Campaign Finance Maps. Go HERE and click the relevant buttons to see the progress so far. Dennis Kucinich by the way, got his in. (more…)

It appears that attempts in Colorado, to drive HRC delegates into the corral are still ongoing. No, it’s not the Lt. Col. Karen Wagner that was killed in the Pentagon attack on 9/11. This Karen Wagner recently left her job as Commissioner citing harassment. Odd pattern anomalies arise surfing the web.  It’s just the kind of thing that feeds mysticism and portent reading. See:

Clintonites should get with the program

What a way to approach the huge Farm Bill issue in advance of a convention in Denver! Maybe Chicagoans don’t understand the interconnectedness of environmental issues in the West.  Of course voting records are known! Tom Harkin’s ethanol bid, Obama’s backing of the corn states is naturally going to rub against up against the Rockies, and all points west. (more…)

CAMPAIGN FINANCE

I just got another donor request pleading for donations to the DNC. This prompted me to think about the status of Obama/McCain donations. As you are probably aware, we don’t usually get to see the data until around the 20th of the following month. However, the Candidates campaigns must account for their funds accumulated on an end of month basis. The DNC is attempting to coordinate their push with the needs of all their candidates. Thus, the plea for contributions before midnight has arrived. I checked in with the League of Women Voters. See their thoughts on presidential campaign finance disclosure thus far:

League, Reform Groups Compare Senators McCain and Obama on Donor Disclosures

The League and reform organizations sent follow-up letters to Senators McCain and Obama seeking full disclosure of donor information on bundlers to their presidential campaigns. The groups also released a chart that compares how far each candidate has come in meeting the groups’ requests for transparency and disclosure.

TOPIX

In March I wrote this on a Topix Blog site:

[No- no! We must have this fight with those who bring them, the racist, sexist, religion bashing, money questions, who did what in the 90’s, who did what in Chicago, who’s hiding what where? All these words, these attitudes that we hold onto, dregs of the last century, must go into the fire we are building. Two candidates are going into the fire. While I think the phoenix rising out the ashes will have a female head, whoever it is will not resemble the original. We must leave no stick, no leaf for the Republicans to burn.

This is the Democratic transformation that will occur. Do not be faint of heart!]

At the time I wrote this exhortation, I was still imagining that the Democratic Party understood that the years of right wing tripe to which we, the public have been subjected, regarding the Clintons, was an attack against the whole of the Democratic Party itself. Ultimately then, fighting the fire of the right wing by stepping into the blaze was the good fight. Little did I know that instead of stomping on the flames, or forging a stronger animal, the DNC would instead attempt to cure the problem by cutting off it’s own body and bleeding all over the kindling. PUMA, and Our Failure to Communicate. Continued…

As I spent the requisite time in the woodshed pondering my plight, it struck me that my ineptitude at PUMA swarming is a metaphor for a personal concern I’ve had since the beginning of February in this election season.

There is a disconnect in sending and receiving of political information. (more…)
