More bad news. The FDA has issued a precautionary recall for Mr. Brown Instant Coffees. If you know anyone who shops asian, let them know. The word is out on processed foods.  Mr Brown is part of the King Car Foods network, out of Taiwan, and with agribusiness links and alumni status at Santa Clara University:

-UPDATE-

Take a trip to the store and stuff changes. The first AP article said, despite the title, that the suspension was Obama’s idea. However, the SFGate now is indicating that Obama wants to have the debate on Friday. See:

Obama rejects McCain’s call to delay debate

By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

(09-24) 16:03 PDT NEW YORK, (AP) —

[The economic crisis and raw politics threatened to derail the first presidential debate as John McCain challenged Barack Obama to delay the Friday forum and join forces to help Washington fix the financial mess. Obama rebuffed his GOP rival, saying the next president needs to “deal with more than one thing at once.”…]

I really can’t tell from this whose idea it was but, see this:

McCain campiagn asks to suspend debate to focus on economy

12:34 PM PDT on Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Associated Press

Republican John McCain said Wednesday he is directing his staff to work with Democrat Barack Obama’s campaign and the presidential debate commission to delay Friday’s debate because of the economic crisis.

I don’t know about you, but a one person debate sounds more like a speech to me. How will this drama play out? I just heard from PocPuma that even Rendell thinks it a good idea to take care of business! And really, can you get any more snarky, then over the “deal with more than one thing at once” comment? They are both senators first after all! Interesting maneuvering going on.

What BostonBoomer said:

Was the debate schedule gamed for Obama too?

Posted on September 23, 2008 by bostonboomer

We now know that the DNC did everything in their power to make sure Barack Obama would be the Democratic nominee for President. Never mind what the voters wanted, this is the year the DNC decided to nominate a black man. Anyone who thought Hillary Clinton was the better candidate was screamed at, called a racist, and told to either stand aside or get out of the Party. The DNC even scheduled their convention so the winner would accept the nomination on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech. Accident? I don’t think so.

So, this is an interesting juxtaposition to the recent AP survey on race, the reports on the HIV crisis, Katrina rebuilding, and unemployment.

We surely know by now that McCain will fight and must have a plan as well. What might be his reasoning for agreeing to this location choice? Who would be his audience? (more…)

It’s not over yet. More countries are involved. The EU is checking their biscuits, South Korea is checking their butter, African countries,  Asian countries, Has anyone heard from North Korea? I wonder if the only subject of the  Yu, Yan and Rice meetings is nukes? If you know anyone shopping asian, again, let them know. Milk, milk powder, butter, dairy derivatives, processed foods containing dairy, like cookies, biscuits, breads, puddings, creams. Hey, it’s just me, but that’s what I’d be wondering about. Processed foods are the worst at containing things you didn’t expect. Check the labels, It’s your life, if you’re aren’t sure don’t buy it. (more…)

Good question Ted, maybe we SHOULD revisit a psychological reason:

By Ted Widmer, Sunday, September 21, 2008; Page B01

After a nerve-rattling week in which the U.S. financial system was shaken to the core, here’s a simple question: Why on Earth would anyone want to be president right now?

Aftershocks: When a New President Inherits a Mess

ET: Outlook: No White House Honeymoon

[Even in the best of times, it’s a grueling job. But the problems of 2008 seem unusually intractable, and despite the fine talk one sometimes hears about reconciliation, the electorate will be divided no matter who wins in November. Even Bush’s snarkiest critics would have had trouble predicting all the rough weather of the second term, from Hurricane Katrina to the smoldering wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the bursting of the housing bubble, the financial meltdown and the Recession That Dare Not Speak Its Name. Would any sane person want to inherit this?…]
